The Police Department is located at 12 Pinnacle Hill Road, above the Town Offices.
The non-emergency number is 744-5423. If no one is available to take your call, Belknap County Dispatch will intercept the call and take a message.
The Secretary is available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Department personnel are in the office as time allows.
Chief of Police Merritt D. Salmon
Mr. Salmon has been in the law enforcement profession for 29 years. In fact, he began his career here in New Hampton and was promoted to Chief of Police and served as the Chief for 10 years. He then went on to work for Rockingham County and served as the Town of Holderness’s Police Chief for 5 years, retiring in 2003. He has remained in law enforcement working for the town of Meredith Police Department and the Belknap County Sheriff’s Department.
Sergeant George C. Huckins
Sergeant Huckins is a twelve-year veteran of the New Hampton Police Department. He started as a patrolman and has risen to the rank of Sergeant. He is active in the community, and has most recently begun prosecuting for the department.
Jeffrey Cagle – Detective Patrolman
Det. Patrolman Cagle came to us from the Louisiana State Police. He started as a dispatcher and worked his way up the ranks to Sergeant. Since starting here he has been assigned to investigations, and has received the training and is now the D.A.R.E. officer as well.
Jessie Jennings – Patrolman
Ptlm. Jennings came to us on January 1st, 2006, after working for the town of Plymouth. He graduated from the Police Academy in March of 2006 and has been fulfilling his duties since. Ptlm. Jennings is also a member of the Army National Guard.
Christopher Hogan – Patrolman
Ptlm. Hogan started his Law Enforcement career in corrections working for the New Hampshire State Prison. He came to New Hampton in January of 2006, and graduated from the Police academy in June of 2006. Above his normal duties, Ptlm. Hogan is the evidence officer for the department.
Monica Cunningham – Patrolman
Ptlm. Cunningham started her Law Enforcement career with the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Department as a Dispatcher. While there she was promoted to Dispatch Supervisor, and subsequently became a Deputy Sheriff. She attended and graduated from the Police Academy in November 2003. In 2006 she left the Sheriff’s Department to join the Plymouth State University Police Department, and remained there until we hired her in late 2007.
Bonnie Calzada – Administrative Assistant
Ms. Calzada moved to Meredith from Fort Lauderdale, FL in 1977, with her three children. She became a police officer for the Town of Meredith. After several years of road patrol functions, she became the Sex Crimes Investigator and Officer in Charge of Administrative Services, holding those two positions until she retired from the Meredith Police Department in 1997. Since “retiring” she has worked part-time for the Belknap County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Marshal’s Service doing court security. Bonnie came to work for the New Hampton Police Department in 2002.
